The best lighting scheme is the one your client can run without you

A lighting studio’s real deliverable isn’t the install — it’s whether the facilities team left holding the system afterward can actually operate it. We’ve inherited enough abandoned control systems, over-engineered by a previous firm and untouched since handover, to treat operability as a design constraint from day one, not an afterthought in the closeout documentation.

That means simple overrides, a scene library the operator actually understands, and a scheduling interface built for someone with no lighting-design background — because that’s almost always who’s left running it.
