Suspension bridge civic lighting layered onto a structural safety upgrade

The transit authority’s budget covered exactly one thing: replacing failing sodium-vapour navigation lighting with code-compliant LED fixtures on the main cables and towers. We designed that functional upgrade first, sized entirely to the navigational-safety brief, and then proposed an additive colour-capable layer on the same conduit runs and power budget the safety upgrade had already justified — at a marginal cost the authority’s public-realm partner agreed to cover separately.

The bridge now runs functional white lighting every night by default, with the civic colour layer reserved for a short list of calendar occasions the authority controls directly.
